BBC’s Radio 1 reaches 1 million subscriptions on YouTube

BBC has announced that the Radio 1 service now has 1 million subscribers on its YouTube channel, becoming the first radio station ever to reach the milestone and the most popular radio channel on the site.

Since the station’s YouTube channel launched in 2006, the visual platform has enabled Radio 1 to reach out to young audiences – 55 per cent of the network’s YouTube viewers are said to be under the age of 24.

Ben Cooper, Controller of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, says: “Radio 1 has to find new ways of finding new young audiences for the BBC and the best way to predict the future of radio is invent it yourself.”

Radio 1 DJ Greg James says: “It’s really important that Radio 1 not only does really good radio stuff, but also does good videos too and to make sure that as many people as possible know about what we do.”
