Bangladesh celebrates World Radio Day with rally

Hundreds turned out to celebrate World Radio Day in Bangladesh with a ‘grand rally’ in central Dhaka starting at the head office of ABU member Bangladesh Betar (BB).

The country’s Minister for Information Mr Hasanul Haq Inu MP was chief guest, and special guests included State Minister for Finance Mr M. A. Mannan and Information Ministry Secretary Mr Mortuza Ahmed.

Mr Inu told the rally that radio was always with the people and would stay with them. He said the Bangladesh Government had initiated community radio to give emphasis to the significance of voices of the rural community.

AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of ABU member Bangladesh NGOs’ Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), said a large number of people joined the rally, including Mr Kazi Akhtaruddin Ahmed along with BB officials, the Ministry of Information, members from private FM Radio and community FM stations, listeners’ clubs, presenters, artists and journalists.
