New CEO for Macau’s public broadcaster

Manuel Pires will replace Leong Kam Chun as CEO of Macau’s public broadcaster Teledifusao de Macau (TDM) from March 1, 2014. Pires, who is currently chairman of the TDM board, will serve a term of three years.

Born in Macau, Manuel Pires holds a degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations. He started his career in 1983 at the Tourism Bureau and has been a member of the TDM board since 2001.

In a press conference, Mr Pires said that the public broadcaster would continue in its role to “establish Macau as an international center for tourism and leisure and to promote cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries”.

He added that there are no immediate plans to introduce position changes involving key personnel. “First, we need to get well informed about all the issues and then find the solution. No personnel changes are planned.”

Mr Leong Kam Chun has served as CEO for the past three years. According to an official statement from the Government Spokesperson’s Office, he submitted a request to not be reappointed for another term.
