Sony Pictures Television’s GEM launched in Vietnam

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks’ GEM has launched in Vietnam with a selection of drama and variety shows from South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, broadcast on an exclusive and first-run basis with Vietnamese voice-overs or subtitling.

The channel is now available on HTVC Cable TV System of Television Media Service Company, a leading pay-TV operator in Vietnam.

“GEM caters to the rapidly-growing demand for Asian content in Vietnam by offering a dedicated general entertainment channel where viewers can enjoy some of the highest quality and star-studded programmes from across the region,” said Virginia Lim, vice president, Asian content, SPT Networks, Asia.

“We are pleased to be working with HTVC Cable TV System of Television Media Service Company to launch the channel in Vietnam and look forward to entertaining our audience with a wide array of compelling programming complemented by on-air, online and on-the-ground events that will extend the viewing experience.”

Rapid TV News reports that the debut of GEM brings SPT Networks, Asia’s bouquet of regional channels to seven, adding to Asian content channels ONE and Animax; English content channels AXN, beTV and Sony Entertainment Television; and a joint-venture stake in the Indonesian telenovela channel Televiva, which it operates with Dori Media Group. GEM is the second SPT channel to gain carriage in Vietnam, after AXN.
