Disaster Risk Reduction Video Competition deadline extended

Thai PBS and its partners have extended the deadline for a video clip competition featuring disaster risk reduction. Entries will be accepted until 20 April, 2014.

Titled “Promoting Investments for Resilient Nations and Communities”, the competition aims to showcase the benefits of disaster risk reduction policies to nations and communities as well as to encourage increase investment in prevention and mitigation measures.

ThaiPBS is partnering Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) in launching the competition.

Organisers say the video clips must be between two and five minutes in length in one of four categories: Youth, Student or Young People; Media, Film Makers or Professional Producers; NDMO, NGOs, UN/DRR Experts; and the General Public, other groups or anyone else.

The partners say they are extending the deadline to 20 April 2014 and that prizes totalling US$ 9,000 will be awarded at the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Bangkok from 23 to 25 June.

They add that short films in local languages may now be accepted under exceptional circumstances, as the jury has agreed to work with translators to identify the best short films in different languages.

More information is available at the competition website.
