Thailand’s first terrestrial broadcaster with Dolby Digital Plus

Thairath TV has become the first broadcaster in Thailand to begin broadcasting in Dolby Digital Plus, bringing surround sound experiences to viewers of its HD service.

Triple V Broadcast Company CEO Vachara Vacharaphol says: “Broadcast innovations in Thailand are evolving at a fast pace. The incredible combination of high-definition video and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound provides audiences the best quality of content and experience.”

Thailand is one of the first countries in south-east Asia to broadcast on free-to-air DVB-T2, a major broadcast standard for digital terrestrial television transmission. Television broadcasts over DVB-T2 are also available in the United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Indonesia, Singapore and several other countries.

Leong-Yan Yoong, Regional Director, South East Asia, for Dolby Laboratories says the company is thrilled to be working with Thairath TV.

“Great sound is essential for great entertainment,” he says. “As high-definition broadcasts become more widely available for viewers in Asia, Thairath TV’s initiative for a higher standard of home entertainment, complemented with Dolby Digital Plus technology, is the way to go.”

Dolby says that, to-date, Digital Plus has been included in more than 1.7 billion products worldwide, including TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, audio/video receivers and mobile devices.
