Registration opens for ABU’s Golden Anniversary General Assembly

Online registration is now open for the ABU’s Golden Anniversary General Assembly in Macau, China, in October.

The Union says this year’s GA in the Special Administrative Region from 22-28 October 2014 will be a special event for broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific, allowing participants to review half a century of development and set goals for the next 50 years.

“I urge everyone wanting to attend to register early so they don’t miss out,” says ABU General Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi.

“A 50th Anniversary allows us to celebrate what we have achieved and also assess what we could have done better,” he says. “And it also demands that we throw our imagination forward to grow and improve the Union and set it on the path towards the Centenary.”

The theme of this year’s conference is “Future-proofing broadcasting in a fragmented media world” and ABU President Mr Gil Hwan-young, in a special welcoming video, says it marks a significant milestone in broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific.

“We will see how far we have come in the past 50 years – from our new beginning to become a leader for technological and broadcasting developments throughout the world.”

He hopes delegates and invited experts will also look forward to changes to come, so that broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific continues to enrich the hearts and minds of audiences.

In a separate message on behalf of the host broadcaster Teledifusão de Macau, Manuel Pires, Chairman of the TDM Executive Committee, has invited delegates to “our wonderful territory within the People’s Republic of China” and said he hoped they had a productive and exciting ABU General Assembly.

“We have a long and interesting history of broadcasting, so as well as the wonderful scenery, delicious cuisines and welcoming people, I hope you will enjoy seeing how far we have come and the exciting developments we are making. As we say, you are welcome to ‘Experience Macau’.”
