TV analogue switch-off “unique opportunity” for radio, experts say

The switch from analogue to digital television will provide unique opportunities for digital radio, the organisers of a workshop in Turkey say.

WorldDMB is organising a free one-day workshop in Istanbul on DAB+ digital radio on 14 June 2014 in collaboration with Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), RATEM (the Professional Union of Broadcasting Organisations), RTÜK Radyo ve Televizyon Üst Kurulu (the Radio and Television Supreme Council) and iTVF-Istanbul TV Forum and Fair.

The organisers say these are exciting times for the TV and radio industries in Turkey, as the analogue switch-off of terrestrial TV goes ahead in 2015 and releases potential spectrum for digital radio.

“With DAB/DAB+ extending its footprint across Europe and Asia Pacific, this workshop will provide a unique opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Europe and worldwide on the growth of the DAB+ digital radio standard.”

They say leading global radio industry experts will also attend, presenting practical experience and case studies on the rollout of digital radio from their own countries.

Speakers already confirmed to attend include:  Patrick Hannon, President of WorldDMB and Vice President of Corporate Development at Frontier Silicon; Ole Jorgen Torvmark, CEO of Digital Radio Norway and Christian Wachter of Rohde & Schwarz.

Topics covered in the workshop include an overview of the Turkish radio industry plus updates from WorldDMB on global DAB/DAB+ services and case studies on content, regulatory, technical, business, marketing and financial perspectives.
