Thai’s Samart eyes new markets for its DTV-enabled smartphone

Thai technology company Samart Corporation is planning to export over 500,000 digital TV-enabled smartphones across Asia and Middle Eastern countries which have recently adopted DVB-T2.

The company first launched the devices in Thailand, priced between USD $92 – 184, to leverage the arrival of 24 commercial digital TV channels.

Samart is now targeting a sale of 1.5 million phones this year in the country and is also planning to export units to Myanmar and South Africa.

“We had been approached by many countries that have adopted the DVB-T2 technology for digital television, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Tunisia and Myanmar, about marketing our smartphones with built-in digital TV there,” said Watchai Vilailuck, CEO of Samart Corporation.
