Vietnam Television wins World Cup 2014 broadcast rights

Vietnam Television (VTV) had secured the exclusive broadcasting rights for the month-long FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil, which begin on 12 June.

Head of VTV’s Editorial Secretariat, Nguyen Ha Nam, said the national broadcaster will air the football matches on terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, as well as via the radio, Internet, and mobile devices. It is now offering local networks the ability to provide delayed branded match coverage.

The rights, which were initially offered by agency MP & Silva for US$10 million, may have cost VTV up to US$7 million, according to Thanh Nien. This would be a price hike of some $4 million on the reported cost of the rights to air the World Cup 2010 on Vietnamese TV.
