More Asian broadcasters license Rising Star

Three Asian broadcasters have licensed broadcasting rights of the popular reality television singing competition, Rising Star.

Singapore-based MediaCorp, Thailand’s Bangkok Entertainment Company (BEC) and Chinese video-on-demand service Sohu have licensed the show from Keshet International.

Mediacorp will air the show on its Channel 5 in primetime on Monday nights following the Sunday night US broadcast. The program will be available on Sohu immediately after its US broadcast. BEC has not yet confirmed a slot.

The series is a joint venture between KI, the global distribution and production arm of Keshet Media Group, and DC Media, the parent company of Dick Clark Productions. The show was first aired on American TV network, ABC.

Rising Star is said to have been picked up by more than 27 broadcasters worldwide since its launch at the MIPCOM education content market in Cannes last year.

Rising Star uses an interactive talent format that the distributor says “hails a new era in home entertainment, its launch marking the first real-time voting by viewers via an innovative free app which is fully integrated into the show”.
