NHK World reveals new improved website

Japan’s international broadcaster NHK World has released its new online news site in English aimed at delivering “a more user-friendly service and much better viewing experience”.

The previous sections with Latest News and the Newsline Features – from its 24-hour news program – have been integrated to streamline all news items, so users can quickly find the contents they wish to view. The revised site also supports easy access for smartphones and tablets.

NHK World Online had already launched a smartphone-friendly home page in 17 languages including Japanese, and now pages in English – including the top page – are now also optimised for smartphones.

NHK World Online says it has recorded 124.42 million page views during the fiscal year 2013.

“We hope that improved accessibility for smartphones will attract more users,” a spokesperson says.

“NHK World Online not only delivers a variety of information on its website, but also provides live streaming of NHK World TV and NHK World Radio Japan,” they went on. ”Streamed news and other programs are available in Japan as well. Users can download NHK World apps free of charge to view programs on smartphones and tablets.”
