Pandora TV to launch UltraHD service

Korea’s Pandora TV is set to launch its own ultra high definition (UHD) online broadcasting service later this month.

According to Rapid TV News, the announcement follows Pandora TV’s addition of the 4K UHD playback feature to its KM Player last January, which marked the first time UHD broadcasting was introduced into a video platform – 11 months ahead of YouTube.

Pandora TV has since focused its research and development on video compression and production technology to enable both PC and mobile users to access UHD videos.

“We are convinced that UHD broadcasting can be a specialty of Korea, which is excellent in IP-based internet services,” Pandora TV CEO Kim Kyong-ik told Business Korea.

“We will keep striving harder so we can take the initiative in this field,” he added.
