DRM unveils first India-produced receiver at IBC 2014

The Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium showed off its first ever radio set produced in India at this year’s International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2014 in Amsterdam.

The new receiver ‘AV-DR -1401’ is designed and produced by Communications Systems Inc under the brand name Avion Electronics of India.

As well as being a digital DRM SW, MW, and an analogue AM and FM receiver with stereo reception, the set offers an MPEG audio function, multimedia applications, automatic tuning by station instead of frequency and emergency alert capability.

Ankit Agrawal, Director of Communications Systems Inc said: “Our receiver received a lot of positive feedback, particularly the extended battery life and its emergency warning capability.  With small adjustments we plan to make the receiver available for order in the next few months.”

Ruxandra Obreja, the Consortium Chairman, said: “With sufficient orders and support it could do very well, demonstrating that global, green and extremely cost-effective DRM is a reality for listeners now.
