Australian commercial radio elects new Chairman and unveils brand campaign

Australia’s commercial radio industry has unveiled a US $22 million industry-wide radio brand campaign “Radio – It’s a Love Thing”. The launch took place at Commercial Radio Australia’ annual National Radio Conference in Melbourne.

The campaign is anchored by a song “Love Thing”, co-written by Eardrum and Australian band No Pictures. The presenters said the “Radio – It’s a Love Thing” theme is underpinned by comprehensive multi-phased research, the first of its kind, from Colmar Brunton, that investigated the correlation between radio and happiness levels, openness to advertising and search and purchase behaviour.

The CRA General Assembly also appointed its new Board of Directors.

Adam Lang, Managing Director of Fairfax Radio Network, was elected chairman of CRA, replacing outgoing head Rhys Holleran, CEO of Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) who completed his second term from 2012 – 2013 and who remains on the Board.

Mr Lang said: “I am very proud to accept the role of Chairman of Commercial Radio Australia. Our Board members are an incredibly capable group, united and passionate about the strength and vibrancy of our industry.”

CRA chief executive officer Joan Warner thanked Mr Holleran for his unwavering support and commitment to the industry body.
