Indonesia to host 2018 Paralympic Games

Indonesia has agreed to host the next Asian Para Games in 2018.

Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) Secretary General Malini Rajasegaran confirmed that Indonesia has pledged its commitment through an official personally handed by its Sports Minister Roy Suryo to APC President Dato Zainal Abu Zarin.

“I’m pleased to inform that Indonesia has pledged its commitment to organise the next edition of the Asian Para Games in 2018,” said Ms Rajasegaran.

The ABU and Asian Paralympic Committee have signed an agreement to work closely to help promote the Paralympic movement in the region.

Indonesia last hosted the South East-Asia (ASEAN) Para Games in 2011 in Solo in Central Java. Further details on the organisation of the 2018 Para Games have yet to be determined, according to Ms Rajasegaran.

She said the APC “extended its highest gratitude to the Indonesian government for its commitment towards empowering and enhancing Para Sports and Movement in the region”.

Indonesia has also agreed to host the 2018 Asian Games, taking over from Vietnam who in April backed out from the hosting job, citing lack of funds.

“We look forward to a successful organisation of the 2018 in Indonesia,” said Ms Rajasegaran.
