TVNZ to outsource production activity

Television New Zealand (TVNZ), the public service national broadcaster, is to outsource production of its Maori and Pacific programmes to independent producers in 2015.

“This move would align Maori and Pacific programmes such as bi-lingual current affairs show Marae, documentary series, Waka Huia and Pacific news show, Tagata Pasifika with other locally commissioned shows and create an opportunity for the country’s independent producers,” said Kevin Kenrick, CEO of TVNZ.

Kenrick added that current affairs show, Te Karere, would remain in-house and said “daily newsgathering is a centre of excellence for TVNZ that has a unique production process.”
