RTM to commence digitisation trials in Q3 2015

State broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), announced it will pilot digital terrestrial television in the third quarter of 2015.

RTM has scheduled the overall completion of digital terrestrial television broadcasting infrastructure by 2016. Malaysia is likely to switch off analogue signals by 2017 or 2018.

“Various preparations with regard to the studios, cameras and other aspects had been made, except for the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting infrastructure platform which had yet to be completed. The overall infrastructural preparation, God willing, will be completed by 2016,” said Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Communications and Multimedia Minister.

The country had earlier planned to kick start the digitisation programme in 2012.
