Girl Power radio contest winners chosen in Bangladesh

ABU member Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) is honouring five community radio stations for outstanding contributions in championing empowerment issues for girls and young women.

The Girl Power Award is aimed at motivating community radio broadcasters in Bangladesh to contribute in reducing gender discrimination at their own communities. The awarding process started on 1 October 2014, organised by BNNRC in collaboration with Plan International Bangladesh.

Program producers and journalists from 14 community radio stations participated in the contest with the theme “Because I am a Girl!” Category one was for an audio magazine program up to 15 minutes duration on a success story of a girl or young women while category two was for a written feature or report on any success story of a girl or young woman within 1,500 words.

Ms Nibedita Ahmed Tuli, Deputy Director (External Service), Bangladesh Betar, MrQadir Kollol, Correspondent, BBC, Bangladesh and Mr Amin Al Rasheed, Editor, Community Media, assisted with judging.
