NBN to pilot HFC cable TV in Australia

Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) has planned to run the pilot of hybrid fibre coaxial cable (HFC) television in the country.

The company will commercially operate the services in 2016, NexTV Asia reports.

NBN has recently inked a deal with Telstra and Optus to gain cable infrastructure. Under the contract, Telstra and Optus have agreed to sell its copper and hybrid fibre coaxial network to NBN. Telstra will also provide planning and design services for the project over the next four years.

“The recently revised definitive agreements between Telstra and NBN allows for the incorporation of existing networks in parts of the country where it represents the fastest and most cost effective way to deliver the NBN,” said John Simon, Chief Customer Officer of NBN.
