PEMRA aims to increase quality channels in Pakistan

Pakistan broadcasting regulator, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), has planned to work closely with stakeholders and investors to increase the number of quality channels, said Parvez Rathore, Chairman of PEMRA at a seminar on digitalisation.

NexTV Asia reports the initiative intends to fast track cable digitalisation process – under International Telecom Union (ITU) deadline, the PEMRA has to implement the digitalisation by the end of year 2015.

Parvez Rathore also emphasised on the massive investment and employment that digitalisation would bring besides offering variety and quality of channels to subscribers.

The seminar also highlighted technical, technological, economic and social issues involved in obstructed implementation of digitalization.
