Host sought for 2017 global children’s media summit

Broadcasters around the world are being invited to host the next World Summit on Media for Children (WSMC) in 2017.

The WSMC Foundation is calling for tenders to host the summit, a triennial event inaugurated in 1995 in Melbourne, Australia, and hosted last year in Kuala Lumpur by the ABU and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

More than 1,000 participants attended the KL event, the first time the summit had been held in the Asia-Pacific after Melbourne.

A partnership including the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Storytegic and Keynes Turkey was in the running to host the 2017 Summit in Davos, Switzerland, but the partnership has now withdrawn its bid and the Foundation has chosen to reopen the tender process.

The WSMC Foundation is an independent body that uses its expertise, networks and influence to develop and provide quality media for children.

The Foundation is not a source of funding and any World Summit has to be self-financing. Any interested organisation must submit a formal proposal to host the 2017 Summit.

Details for submitting a tender, and more details about the WSMCF can be found here.

Submissions will close on April 30 2015, and should be sent to the Chair of the Foundation, Dr Patricia Edgar, at triciaedgar@bigpond.com.
