Thailand’s TrueVisions offers new sub-free digital STB

Thai pay-TV operator TrueVisions is introducing a new digital high definition (HD) satellite set-top box (STB) to enable the reception of more than 200 channels without a monthly subscription fee.

The owner of Thailand’s leading satellite platform, True Corporation, aims to sell six million of the STBs over the coming three years, according to The Nation.

The STB, priced at THB1,690 (US$52), is compatible with both Ku-band and C-band satellite dishes, and will provide 27 digital terrestrial television (DTT) channels and eight TrueVisions’ HD channels, among the 200 channels available. 

“We want to reduce the entry barrier for new customers with an affordable price and ease of use,” said Birathon Kasemsri Na Ayudhaya, head of commercial and business development, TrueVisions.

“TrueVisions’ strength is its content, and we are confident that many viewers are looking for more than digital TV channels,” he added.

Rapid TV News reports that in addition to the free channels bundled with the new set-top box, three TrueVisions subscription packages are available, including sports, entertainment and film content.

TrueVisions currently delivers video content to a total of around three million customers.
