Korea’s CJ E&M ventures into animation

South Korean entertainment conglomerate, CJ E&M, has set up an exclusive animation unit, launching it with a debut toon Robot Trains RT, a “coming-of-age” story about train-shaped characters that save their village from dark forces.

The firm has planned to invest more than USD15 million on content development, production, distribution, licensing and character production. 

CJ E&M is betting big on the Chinese market, promising to hire a dedicated team in the first half of this year to cater to the Chinese market.

“With aggressive investment and tactful marketing, we are putting forth our best efforts to produce a variety of high-quality animations in order to lead the global market and give a boost to the local animation market as well,” said Ji-Soo Han, Head of the new animation business division with CJ E&M.
