NHK to showcase 8K technology at DBS 2015

Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, will showcase its ultra high definition TV technology at this year’s ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium in Kuala Lumpur.

NHK has been leading the development of 8K Super Hi-Vision, an ultra-high-definition system, and will exhibit a small 8K camera weighing just 2 kg.

Other highlights in 8K will include a performance by the Japanese drum group Tao, time-lapse footage of Mt Fuji and key moments from the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

NHK will also display the world’s smallest 13.3 inch 8K OLED, a display technology using an ultra-thin screen.

The Japanese broadcaster is accelerating the test broadcast of 8K by satellite and plans to start an 8K broadcast in 2018.

In addition to exhibiting at DBS, NHK is a Major Sponsor of the symposium, which takes place on 3-6 March.
