DVB-T2: Technologies and Implementations

The ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2015 kicks off this morning at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur with a pre-symposium workshop on “DVB-T2: Technologies and Implementations”.

A full day workshop comprising ten presentations which were focused on the status of DVB-T2, its deployments and migration to HEVC technology in various countries  around the world. In his opening remarks, Dr Amal Punchihewa, ABU Technology Director presented briefly a survey on technological advancement in ABU member countries. The report reveals that there is low readiness for going digital in the Asia-Pacific region. But many countries are making much effort to have their broadcasting infrastructures and networks up to date.

Dr Peter Siebert, Executive Director of DVB, Simon Fell from EBU, Eric Li Bin from Rohde & Schwarz, Singapore, Andy Hickman, from Digital TV Labs along with the other speakers talked about latest developments  concerning specifically transition to DVB T2 and HEVC technology. It was an opportunity for all delegates to be aware of recent technological development in various countries  around the world such as USA, UK, Russia, Turkey, Malaysia, Italy and Vietnam.

Tomorrow the symposium continues with five workshops sponsored by Ericsson, MediaGuru, WASP 3D and WorldDMB, the principal sponsor. This year the exhibition of DBS has attracted over 50 exhibitors.
