ABU celebrates International Women’s Day

The ABU is joining the global celebrations in the context of the International Women’s Day. In a video message the Secretary General Dr. Javad Mottaghi urged members to work for achieving gender equality in media by 2030 – This is in line with the theme “Women Make the News”, initiated by UNESCO.

Dr. Mottaghi reaffirmed the ABU commitment: “As a leading international media association in the world, ABU pledges its continuing support for the Women Make the News 2015 initiative and repeats UNESCO’s YES WE MUST! We want to be part of changing the world and allow all – women and men to realize their potential and achieve their dreams. WE must do together.”

The ABU is also inviting members to join and implement several activities for achieving fair employment and portrayal for women in the media. They range from developing Gender Diversity Plans to creating support networking groups of women in management and creating gender sensitive programmes. Click here to download the agenda.
