Disasters Preparedness in the Pacific islands: Media players on the move

Broadcast and print journalists in the Kiribati islands have tested their readiness to stay on air and provide vital public information during a major emergency or disaster. A Climate and Disaster Resilience Plan in the Pacific region supports the ability of Kiribati’s Broadcasting and Publication Authority (BPA) to perform its duties in the event of an emergency on the islands by setting out ways to increase the resilience of the authority’s infrastructure, operations and personnel.

Later this year broadcasters in the Cook islands, Solomon islands and Vanuatu will complete their resilience plans and will be trained on how to report on climate change and disaster risk management. Broadcasters in Palau, Samoa and Tuvalu have already developed their climate and disaster resilience plans.
