At the UN Conference at Sendai, ABU promotes media as a partner for Disaster Risk Reduction

The ABU is actively involved at the 3rd UN Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (UNWDRR) in Sendai, Japan, in making media one of the key civil society stakeholders for disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction.

ABU was instrumental in lobbying the other sister unions like EBU, ASBU and AUB to draft and adopt a Media Stakeholder Statement of Commitment for the Sendai UN conference. The Common Declaration  makes disaster literacy and disaster preparedness through media a priority for media organization in order to educate their audiences on climate change effects and mitigations.

The second ABU Global News Forum, hosted and organized by NHK-Japan  in Sendai,  is also connected to the 3rd UN World Conference on DRR.
