CCTV President opened the 56th ABU Sports Group Conference: Realizing the full potential of sports as a way forward

Mr Nie Chenxi, Vice Minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) & President of CCTV opened the 56th ABU Sports Group Conference & Associated Meetings in Beijing today Friday 8 May 2015. Members from the Asia Pacific region, agencies, sports federations experts from the sports industry have joined this year’s meeting. In his key note address Mr Nie Chenxi welcomed all the delegates and said that ABU is an important organisation in the field of media and especially sports. ABU plays the role of enhancing development in the region, he said.

The CCTV President said that the Asia-Pacific is a huge and fragmented market where broadcasters face various challenges. Mr Nie Chenxi emphasised that members of the ABU should adapt to the changing trends and work towards a common development in the sports industry. In conclusion CCTV will continue to be an active member and support in ABU programing, sports, news and copyright events.

The Chairperson of the ABU Sports Group and Controller of Sports in CCTV Mr Jiang Heping and ABU Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi  welcomed all the members including the agencies and federations to jointly tap into the full potential of sports. Mr Heping said during the last meeting in Macau the ABU sports group made significant progress with consensus in unification and has laid a solid foundation for members to focus on combating the competitive market.

Dr Mottaghi said that for the past 50 years of its existence, the ABU has contributed immensely to media development in various countries. The ABU Sports has been growing fast and is providing more services than before to members by enhancing and expanding its scope of activities and service, he added.
