The Pacific Media Partnership Conference 2014 will be held in November in Suva, Fiji with the theme “Partnering for Broadcast Development”.

The conference will be preceded by several workshops and meetings. The conference is jointly organised by the ABU and the Pacific media partners in collaboration with Fiji broadcasters.

It is increasingly recognized that broadcasting plays a major and important role in development – as a widespread tool of information transfer, as a method to improve governance, as an important economic sector in its own right and as a potential access point to new information and communications technologies.

This is more profound in developing countries like the Pacific Island Nations, where if effectively used and streamlined for developmental activities can work as an essential tool in improving the lives the people.

The PMP event provides a platform for the broadcasters and media personnel in the Pacific to share knowledge and expertise to improve and promote broadcasting in the region.

How to effectively address different areas of the community, using specific programming like news, sports and other disciplines. Looking at how the media landscape is changing with the rapid changes of technology and innovation, integration of new media concepts to reach out to wider audiences across borders, smaller and scattered nations like the Pacific Islands can benefit from this approach.

The event will help expose the broadcasters and other media professionals to new concepts and tools that can enhance their capacity in various aspects of broadcasting.
