Myanmar and Vietnam cooperate in broadcast sector

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between U Tint Swe, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information and Vu Hai, Vice Chairman of Voice of Vietnam (VOV) early this week in Nay Pyi Taw.

Both sides touched upon matters related to boosting cooperation in the broadcasting sector through the MoU. Since 1999, MRTV and VOV, both public broadcasters in Myanmar and Vietnam respectively, have begun cooperation in the broadcast sector. 

Myanmar is also cooperating with foreign media along with the increased opening of the sector to private investment and a number of foreign media has been seeking to enter the local TV market competitively. MRTV is operated under Myanmar’s Information Ministry. Last year, Myanmar promulgated a new Media Law, which allows formation of private or public media companies
