Myanmar to open up Media sector

A major development will take place in Myanmar’s broadcasting industry with a new broadcasting law which is nearing completion. The Myanmar Government has acted on its plans to develop one of the country’s key industry sectors with a new broadcasting law to open up the country’s media industry and encourage the distribution of new services.  

Myanmar’s broadcasting industry is accelerating at a fast pace. It is reported that the new law will send a strong message to the world that the Myanmar Government is committed to infrastructure development on a truly massive scale. Talking about the country’s telecommunications and broadcasting industries and the advancements that have been made, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Myanmar, H.E U Thaung Tin, said: “The broadcasting industry is moving very fast. From an economic, commercial, national prestige and national security point of view, everything points towards satellite and the demand is increasing. We have now given the satellite project top priority on our agenda and are working on getting this set up in the near future. We have done well in terms of telecom liberalisation so far but the journey has just begun. We now have to kick momentum and fulfil the people of Myanmar’s desires and expectations. People are now asking for the quality of service and more choices and we have to deliver that,” he added
