TRT Turkey looks to Digital Radio

Broadcasters in Turkey are planning to digitise radio services. With the assistance of WorldDMB, several seminars have been organised by iTVF, the Turkish broadcast industry conference and exhibition, and with the participation of TRT, Turkish national broadcaster, RATEM (Professional Union of Broadcasting Organisations), and the regulatory body RTÜK – Radyo ve Televizyon Üst Kurulu – (Radio and Television Supreme Council).

Turkey first investigated DAB back in 2002, before receivers were available at affordable prices.  For DAB+ digital radio, this problem has now been resolved.  In the last ten years, over 30 million DAB / DAB+ receivers have been sold worldwide.  This growth has enabled manufacturers to benefit from economies of scale.  As a result, DAB+ receivers are now available at mass market prices – entry level models are available at €20 – and prices are falling every year.

The next iTVF event will take place in Istanbul, 1-3 March 2016.
