ABU-AIBD workshop focused on hybrid broadcasting

ABU in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) conducted in Kuala Lumpur a workshop from 29 September to 1 October 2015 on Over-The-Top (OTT) and Integrated Broadcast Broadband (IBB) technologies and services.

63 participants from 26 organisations in 15 countries attended the workshop which addressed hybrid technologies that are of significant interest to all broadcasters and discussed the challenges they face in planning and implementing IBB services. The Speakers were from Fraunhofer IIS, NHK, Media Prima, Sony, Dolby, Thinking Tub, EMC² Isilon, TRT and Digital LabTV.

The workshop provided an introduction to three key IBB technologies-HbbTV, Hybridcast and OHTV, together with services such as catch-up, on-demand and live streaming, offered through the Internet.

Over three days, participants not only explored the technology but also looked at other value-added services and business opportunities that can be introduced to attain a competitive edge in the market place. Case studies from Asia-Pacific were presented, together with some reference to European implementations.
