Channel NewsAsia Wins Two International Awards

Channel NewsAsia has won two international awards. At the 8th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival, its documentary, Sumatra’s Last Tigers, was awarded for Best Short Documentary/TV Documentary and the WWF-Malaysia Wildlife Award. It was picked from some 170 submissions from 47 countries.

Sumatra’s Last Tigers follows the story of a unique tiger conservation programme in Sumatra, Indonesia. While tiger populations around the world are depleting due to poaching and deforestation, tiger numbers in a remote nature reserve in Sumatra are increasing. The documentary trails the man behind this project – Indonesian tycoon Tomy Winata – and the laudable contributions of his project.

In Los Angeles at the 44th annual Clio Key Art Awards, Channel NewsAsia’s teaser, Bring Back the Girls was presented with the Silver Award in the Television/Streaming: Audio/Visual category. It is a landmark series exploring the plight women in Asia face in fighting against prejudice, injustice and violence.
