GA 2015: ABU will further cultivate innovation in broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region

During a press conference to night in Istanbul, the President of the ABU, Mr Cho Dae-hyun said that technology is taking our audiences in a new digital frontier. The Union looks forward to further cultivating innovation in broadcasting and more opportunities will be created for collaboration.

The ABU President having by his side the ABU Secretary-General, Dr Javad Mottaghi, normally meets the press each year on the eve of the General Assembly which will run from 30-31 October at Hilton Bosphorus Hotel in Istanbul. Nearly 600 delegates from Asia and beyond are attending this year’s General Assembly and its associated meetings. The ABU President thanked TRT-Turkish Radio and Television Corporation for the good organisation of the meetings and their warm hospitality.

Mr Cho Dae-Hyun pointed out that the main responsibility of the ABU is to promote the development of broadcasting and to organize cooperative activities among its members in the Asia-Pacific region.

Replying to questions put by the press, he underlined that the ABU is going from strength to strength. “The number of members is constantly increasing and new projects are being initiated. The union’s achievement is remarkable due to the very good collaboration between the Secretariat and the Administrative Council”. He added.

The ABU Secretary-General joined the President stressing on the support of the Union to members having less resources. Capacity building, Disaster Risk Reduction and training of engineers are the main sectors where cooperation among members is on-going.
