Asian countries will boost SVOD homes in the world to reach over 300 million homes by 2020

The number of global SVOD homes is forecast to reach 306 million across 200 countries by 2020, a sharp increase from the 28 million reported in 2010, according to a new report from Digital TV Research.

The Global SVOD Forecasts report estimates that nearly 145 million SVOD subscribers will be added between 2015 and 2020 (up by 90 percent). China will increase by 20 million subscribers, with the U.S. bringing in an extra 22 million, Japan 9 million and India more than 7 million.

The total for SVOD homes by end of 2015 is forecast at 197 million, meaning a growth of 42 million homes this year alone.

Global SVOD revenues for all operators in 200 countries will reach $26.8 billion in 2020, ten times the $2.6 billion recorded in 2010 and more than double the $12.4 billion expected in 2015.
