ABU Workshop on Engineering Fundamentals for Broadcasters ends successfully

The second Regional Workshop on Engineering Fundamentals for Broadcasters was held in Kuala Lumpur from 30 Nov to 4 Dec 2015. The workshop is the outcome of the requests from members and deliberations within the ABU Technical Committee and the Technical Bureau on the need for basic engineering training for young engineers.

This year workshop was jointly organised by ABU and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) to impart basic engineering and technical concepts to upcoming and young engineers who have recently started their careers in broadcasting.

Thirty-three engineers and technical staff attended the 5-day workshop from 12 countries representing over 16 members and broadcasters. The workshop looked at basic analogue audio video systems, their building blocks, the need for going digital and how it is achieved, introduction to digital audio video technologies, its implementation and deployment as well as a look at new media platforms and advanced next generation technologies. The workshop was conducted at the IPPTAR training facilities in Kuala Lumpur.

ABU Technology jointly with AIBD has plans to further enhance and continue this series of workshops to help members in their capacity building needs for young and upcoming broadcast engineers.
