RRI World Radio Day celebrations focused on Disasters in Indonesia

‘Radio in Times of Emergency and Disaster’ was the theme of a 90-minute Talk Show broadcast live by RRI-Indonesia on 13 February 2015 to celebrate World Radio Day 2016. The guests of the Indonesian public radio broadcaster were representatives from the National Agency of Disaster Management, the Ministry of Social Welfare of Indonesia, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and UNESCO.

It was mentioned in the programme how radio is important in trauma-healing in post-disaster situation and the fact that radio empowers survivors and vulnerable people, whose right to privacy is to be respected. Guests discussed also ways to manage disaster using information system and radio.

The show was broadcast live and relayed on 90 local stations throughout the country. RRI also participated in the Musical Caravan-Around the World in 80 minutes of Music, organized by the European Broadcasting Union.

Other ABU members organised various activities to mark this special day for radio. In Japan, India, Bangladesh, Bucharest and Australia  special programmes were aired during the whole day.
