ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2016 kicked off in Kuala Lumpur

The annual ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) kicked off on Monday 29 February 2016 at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) workshop with the theme “The Future of TV”.

Talking about the “Latest Developments and Future Directions of DTT”, Dr Peter Sieberg, Executive Director of DVB Project Office underlined that the next two years will be crucial in an attempt to update the DVB T2 technology and specifications.

Kazuhiro Shimizu, Project Manager at SONY made an overview of the “Status of Mobile Broadcast Reception” in the Asia-Pacific region. He said that more developments are expected to take place shortly in several Asian countries. Other speakers included Simon Fell of EBU who referred to WRC15 on the spectrum issue. The second session of the DVB workshop focused on audio technology, UHD and HDR.

The ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium is an annual event where members, broadcasters and industry players exchange views and share experiences on highly relevant topics and challenges facing broadcast technology. More than 900 people including delegates, exhibitors and visitors usually attend this important gathering every year.

In conjunction with the symposium, an exhibition was held from 1-4 March where  professionals in the broadcasting sector  showcased their latest products and services. The theme of the 2016 DBS is “Innovating Digital Connections”.
