Training Course reinforced ABU-ASBU Cooperation

A week-long training course in Tunisia marked strong ties between the ABU and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

Fifteen broadcast and IT engineers attended the Integrated Broadcast Broadband Technologies, Standards & Services and OTT course at the ASBU headquarters in Tunis from 14 – 18 March 2016.

This is the second training course conducted by ABU.  In 2012, Dr Punchihewa conducted a Digital Television Broadcasting course and in 2014 an IPTV and Networking technologies course for the ASBU in Tunis, Tunisia.

The fifteen participants from Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Algeria, Jordan and Tunisia work in the technical and Information Technology areas of broadcasting.  They examined the use of broadband to complement traditional broadcasting. The course covered topics including broadcasting value chain, contributions, distribution and delivery of media, as well as over-the-top (OTT) services and integrated broadcast broadband technologies, standards and services.

Dr Adnan Salhab, Head of Training and Director of Engineering, ASBU-Damascus Training Centre, thanked ABU and Dr Punchihewa for his continued support in capacity building in rapidly evolving digital media. Mr Bassil Zoubi, Director of the Technical Department, ASBU said that the participants may have gained understanding on these new concepts, which they could use at appropriate time to plan and implement. Dr Punchihewa said that the ABU continues to work closely with the ASBU to share experiences and to assist capacity building in ICT areas.
