NHK Children’s Programme Wins International Emmy Award

NHK is celebrating a win in this year’s International Emmy Kids Awards competition. The judges gave the award for best animated show to “Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter.” The International Emmy Kids Awards honor excellence in children’s television produced outside the United States. The winners were announced at the MIPTV event in Cannes, France.

Goro Miyazaki (son of Hayao Miyazaki and director of Tales from Earthsea and From Up on Poppy Hill) created this anime TV series from a novel by the Swedish children’s author Astrid Lindgren. Deep in a huge, beautiful forest, rival clans of robbers live in the two sides of a castle split by lightning. A girl named Ronja is the only child of one clan. A boy named Birk is the only child of the other. One day, the children encounter each other for the first time and embark on an adventure in the forest.
