NBTC to start digital radio trial within 2018

Thai Radio will turn from analogue to digital broadcasting technology as the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) plans to start digital radio within 2018.

Natee Sukonrat, chairman of the NBTC’s broadcasting committee, said the agency is studying guidelines for the planned switching to digital, which is expected to be complete before the start-up of a trial.

The broadcasting committee will also gather opinions from existing radio station entrepreneurs. Online radio is gaining popularity due to its relatively low costs. There are over 8,000 community-based radio stations nationwide.
