Dami Im of Australia came Second in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest

Australia has been gripped last Saturday by a young lady who came second in the Eurovision competition in Stockholm, Sweden with her performance of the song, Sound of Silence. ABU member, SBS which broadcasted the show ‘live’ throughout Australia gained big audiences.

Dami Im, 27 years old is a Korean-born Australian singer and songwriter who emigrated to Australia with her family at the age of nine. She won the fifth season of the X Factor Australia and subsequently received a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

It is the second Australian participation in this very famous song competition. Her success went viral on the social media and she was congratulated by hundreds of thousands people from various parts of the Asia. Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten also congratulated her.

A lady singer, Jamala from Ukraine won the competition after singing a melancholic tune about the 1944 deportation of Crimean Tatars by Soviet authorities. Eurovision 2016 was watched by a worldwide audience of about 200 million.
