ABU Sports in Rio 2016 Olympics

The ABU Sports continue to serve its members in many key
areas from negotiating and securing broadcast rights to supporting production,
coordination and logistics. For the on-going Rio 2016 Olympics, the ABU is
working for, and with eight territories – Iran, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, Papua
New Guinea, Brunei, Timor Leste and Afghanistan.

Besides,
the ABU is also supporting other members like North Korea and those in South
Asia region. The ABU Sports team led by the Secretary General has been
instrumental in negotiating and securing rights to planning and logistics
support among others

  1.         The 2016 Olympic Games are being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
    August 5 – 21
  2.         Rio became the first city in South America to host an Olympic
    Games.
  3.         The city was elected as Host City of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016
    during the IOC Session in Copenhagen,   Denmark on October 2, 2009
  4.        The 2016 Olympic Sports Programme includes 28 sports, with the
    re-introduction of Golf and Rugby      Sevens.
  5.         Thirty-two Olympic competition venues are spread across four
    regions of the city of Rio: Barra (home to   Olympic Village and the IBC/MPC),
    Copacabana, Deodoro, and   Maracanã. Events taking place at 15      existing venues,
    12 new purpose-built venues and five temporary venues, which will be removed
    following   the Games.
  6.         The Football competition is played in five co-host cities: São
    Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Salvador   and Manaus.

International
Broadcast Centre (IBC)

Located
in the Olympic Park in Barra, the facility is near nine Olympic venues and
adjacent to the Main Press Centre (MPC). The IBC consists of approximately
85,500 square metres of functional space housing a variety of technical and
administrative facilities for both OBS and the RHBs including edit suites,
control rooms, studios and offices.

The IBC
serves as the primary base of operations for OBS and the Rights Holding
Broadcasters (RHBs).
