New Zealand – The Broadcasting Act to be Updated soon

The Government of New Zealand is planning to review and update the Broadcasting Act to be in line with the reality of the converged market.

New Zealanders are consuming content in completely different ways to even a few years ago and can access content anywhere and at any time. It is for this reason that the legislation will be amended and to remain fit for purpose.

The Government considered four areas as part of its review into content regulation: classification requirements, advertising restrictions, election programming and contestable funding. It is reported that the new legislation could also clarify issues related to the online content through on-demand sites.
