SBS creates new programmes for migrants in Australia

New migrants and emerging communities in Australia have now access to new impartial multilingual news and information. SBS Radio is airing a weekly ‘how to’ guide on setting up life in Australia.

Multicultural communities can now learn more about life in Australia through the weekly series of audio and digital packages which are available in 30 languages.  The programmes range from how to vote or lodge a tax return to guides on water and fire safety, healthcare and housing.

More than a quarter of the Australian population (26 percent) were born overseas with nearly one in five speaking a language other than English at home. Since the first National Census in 1911, migrants have made up a large component of the Australian population. The Guide aims to contribute to meeting the communications needs of migrants.
