Bali is ready to welcome ABU General Assembly delegates

Bali is ready to welcome the delegates and guests of the annual General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union – one of the most important broadcasting industry gatherings of the year. Video billboards map the road from the airport to the venue of the GA – the majestic Westin Spa and Resort.

The theme of the 53rd ABU GA and its Associated Meetings is Media for the Future.  For nine days (18 – 26 October 2016) nearly 600 media professionals from over 60 countries and 200 organisations from around the world will make the tranquil island a centre of debates on the role of media in digital and social inclusion, women empowerment, climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness and peace building. Several streams of professional discussions will assess the current state of technology innovation among the 280 members of the ABU across the Asia – Pacific region, examine the quality and relevance of programme content and challenges in the sport coverage of major events.

Bali will also host the first World Broadcasting Unions’ Conference. This unique event, which gets together the crème de la crème of all broadcasting unions from across the globe, is devoted to the role of public broadcasters in the digital age.

A live broadcast will make an audience of hundreds of millions across the region part of the GA Opening Ceremony on 24th October 2016, which expects as a Guest of Hour the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.  ABU and the GA generous hosts, the Ministry of Communications and Informatic, Radio Republik Indonesia and TV Republik Indonesia, will also provide live the star-studed Gala Night of the TV Song Festival on 22 October 2016 and the widely anticipated ABU Prizes on 24 October.
