NHK Wins Engineering Emmy Award-Lauded for Contributions to Broadcast Engineering

NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories (STRL) has become the first organization in Asia to be honored with the Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award* of the 68th Engineering Emmy® Awards.

This award is presented to a corporation or organization which has made outstanding contributions over many years in the broadcasting field. NHK STRL was cited for the development across several decades of pioneering technologies which have expanded the possibilities of broadcasting technology in Japan and all over the world.

Founded in 1930, NHK STRL has recorded many achievements in diverse research and development fields including Japan-U.S. relay broadcasting via satellite, direct satellite broadcasting services, plasma displays, and Hi-Vision and 8K (Super Hi-Vision) ultra-high-definition TV.

NHK STRL continues to perform a pioneering role in the development of broadcasting technology in Japan and abroad through such projects as the development of user-friendly broadcasting technologies and 3D television that can be watched naturally without special glasses.

The presentation will be made in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 26.
